On September of 2005, Design With Reach's Boulder Studio, called for a design-built competion called "Barkitecture" with the challenge to create a doghouse. The requirements were to create a doghouse with dimensions not exceeding 3 cubic feet, that was under $1000 and used at least some "green" materials. KLC Designs, submitted its proposal with "Brownie´s house" using a 4" hight wooden base, which four sides were painted with primary colors. Its base was covered by a collage made with recycled tiles and over this a tipi was erected using 2" PVC pipes and wrapped by an envelop made by double canvas which was insulated with aluminum sheets to protect the dog from cold wheather. The canvas was hand painted with themes such as dog paws, bones and balls with primary colors and textil paint. Eleven doghouses were submitted and then auctioned off on Sunday October 30th to benefit the Humane Society of Boulder. The competition was inspired by the 1999 book, Barkitecture The five winning designs are on display through this weekend at the Bolder Museum of Contemporary Art.
